Charles Faram have been hop merchants and factors since 1865. Working with a wide range of clients on an international scale, Charles Faram have a presence in many countries, with locations in Canada, UK and USA, and continue to develop and research an impressive variety of hops in their various farms and production facilities. They are responsible for a huge range of internationally available beverage products, owing to their diverse range of hops and other products.

Charles Faram had a legacy website with hundreds of pages in multiple languages that had become outdated and confusing to navigate. The first challenge was to consolidate much of this data into a more concise structure to allow their users to find the relevant information quickly and without having to navigate confusing menus and sub-pages.

A completely fresh design was also required to fit with the new branding and to effectively showcase the company, its achievements and services in an impressive and immersive manner.

Charles Faram also required a range of complex functionality, including hop calculators, filing systems, product search, event management, booking systems and ticketing systems for a number of annual events.

Finally a Geo-location functionality with multiple languages was also required to effectively cater to the international group of clients that Charles Farm enjoys working with.

Due to the complex nature and scale of the project, the first stage involved a highly in-depth scoping process to understand the true objectives and aims of the project and properly define exactly what the intended output would look like. NexusBond worked closely with Charles Faram’s team over a number of months to produce several versions of the project scope which would be thoroughly analyzed and improved upon over these iterations.

Next, a concise new sitemap was developed for Charles Faram to ensure that the huge amounts of information available could be easily navigated by the many different personas that would use the website. This also had to take into account the many languages and regions that the website would be developed for.

An additional website was also created for Charles Faram that would allow them to cater to their clients who partake in their annual events. An advanced ticketing and event management functionality was created and installed, enabling the purchase of tickets for these events. Users would be able to specify the number of delegates that would attend, while also specifying their needs and even purchasing specific products for reservation and collection during the event. The ticketing system allowed users to print their tickets for presentation upon arrival.

NexusBond then designed the new website, which consisted of hundreds of pages. Each page was specifically designed from scratch to best showcase the information on offer, including pages for hop calculators, product and file search and showcase of the facilities and production.

The website was then developed, integrating the required functionality and configuring a system that would allow Charles Faram to add and modify new contents as required.

Due to Charles Faram’s international clients, the website needed to display content to users dynamically depending on the IP location that they are browsing from. NexusBond developed a system to automatically read the IP location of the user and then display the relevant content to them. This system would also automatically change the language depending on the area too. Since different languages require more or less text, the design was created uniquely for each page depending on the language used. Another system was also configured, allowing users to specify the location and language that they required to browse, enabling the quick change of location, even if a user was located in a different territory.

Charles Faram now have an impressive new website that allows user to interact with them in a myriad of ways, from finding new products, browsing ‘how-to’ and informational areas and learning about the impressive history and offering of the company. NexusBond continues to support Charles Faram with their future development needs.
